What is a tow hitch?
A tow hitch is an integral part of any vehicle that you intend to use for towing. Not every vehicle in production is capable of towing, but most of those that are will come with a built-in tow hitch. It’s a device that’s attached to the vehicle’s chassis that allows you to connect a trailer of some kind, thus enabling you to tow the trailer along behind you. Some vehicles capable of towing don’t come with a hitch pre-installed, but you can add one through aftermarket parts.
What is a tow package?
A tow package is something typically available when ordering a new vehicle that adds certain features and parts to the automobile. For example, the aforementioned tow hitch would likely be included in the tow package, along with other parts meant for towing and sometimes additional features and tech. To give you a specific example, the 2023 Ford F-150 was available with a tow package that included a seven-wire harness and 4-/7-pin connector, a hitch receiver and a smart trailer tow connector.

All kinds of vehicles are capable of towing, but particularly pickup trucks and large SUVs. Some smaller SUVs and large cars can tow as well, but not as often.
